The driving unit of the dual-strand wire injection machine is housed in a compact casing, based on a robust composite frame. Access is easily provided for fork truck handling. The eye bolt on top of the machine enables safe transport by a crane.

The main function of the machine is the transport of two different cored or solid wires by means of the physical effect of friction. The level of the propulsion force that could be reached depends only on two magnitudes: friction and applied pressure.

Maximal friction results from the optimal design of the toothed profile of the hardened drive rolls which equally avoids levelling of the teeth with abrasion material from the wire.

The use of high pressure normally is limited by the low stability of the cored wire. The VIVTECH machines of the class “9” are fitted with extremely large diameter pressure and drive rolls. Their diameter of 270 mm and 240 mm make it possible to apply 2.000 N per pair of rolls without any risk of damaging the cored wire. Additionally, the deformation resistance which lowers the performance of the machine, is consid­erably diminished.

The wear of the teeth of the drive rolls is minimized by nitriding and also because of the large wheel diameter, nevertheless at regular intervals, an exchange will be necessary. In order to minimize expense for this only wear part we designed the wheel in a modular way. The wear part, a simple toothed disc, is bolted onto a separate hub, thus enabling an extremely easy exchange.

Pressure on the back up rolls is applied by means of pneumatic cylinders, controlled by a pressure switch. It can be set individually for each strand.

The drive power is supplied by two AC geared motors, fed via a common frequency converter. The use of a spur gear motor assures highest efficiency and makes it possible to use the frequency converter optimally up to 100 Hz, even when using large diameter drive wheels.
